Interaction with Academic Institutions
The Kerala State Electricity Regulatory Commission (KSERC) proposes a collaborative framework with engineering institutions in Kerala to strengthen practical, industry-relevant engineering education and promote innovation in emerging energy technologies. The initiative aims to bridge the gap between theory-centric curricula and modern sectoral needs by establishing Field Labs, Centres of Excellence, and energy consultancy units within colleges, enabling hands-on exposure to renewable energy systems, smart grids, battery technologies, electric mobility, and AI-based optimisation. The framework encourages socially responsible technical interventions (ISR), youth entrepreneurship, and campus-based industry parks to support “earn while learning” opportunities and incubation of start-ups. Colleges will also support MSMEs through energy benchmarking and consultancy, leveraging academic expertise and retired professionals. The Commission intends to examine large-scale renewable possibilities such as wetland-based solar projects and will facilitate regulatory-level discussions for emerging areas like electric mobility. Continuous engagement will be ensured through networking groups, annual innovation events, and structured follow-up mechanisms. This collaborative model is expected to modernise engineering education, build institutional capacity, accelerate innovation, and contribute to Kerala’s sustainable energy transition.
